IVINS, Washington County — Gov. Elect Spencer J. Cox officially became Utah’s 18th governor Jan. 4, 2021, succeeding former Gov. Gary Herbert.
Cox and his Lt. Gov.. Deidre Henderson, took the oath of office against a backdrop of red rock cliffs at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts Amphitheatre in Ivins. The date also marks Utah’s 125th anniversary of statehood.
The Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Michael J. Turley was the master of ceremony and members of Utah National Guard Honor Guard presented the colors and the beginning of the ceremony.
Justice Paige Petersen administers the oath of office to Gov. Spencer J. Cox, Lt. Gov. Deidre M. Henderson, Attorney General Sean D. Reyes, State Auditor John Dougall, and State Treasurer David C. Damschen during an inaugural ceremony.
On the amphitheatre stage, Cox salutes as members of 2nd Battalion, 222nd Field Artillery fire a 19-gun cannon salute followed by a four aircraft flyover by members of 2nd Battalion, 211th General Support Aviation Battalion. Also supporting the ceremony were members of the 85th Weapons of Mass Destruction—Civil Support Team along with other support personnel.
