Ruck March Challenge

In-Person Challenge:
Date: 10 September 2021
Time: 0600 to 1800
Location: Camp Williams, UT

Navigate a 26.2 mile ruck march in under twelve hours on Camp Williams. The ruck march navigates through the mountainous terrain of Camp Williams along the dirt road that skirts Camp Williams’ borders. In-processing and weigh-in will take place on the drill floor of Building 7150 on Camp Williams from 0500 to 0600.

 

In-Person Challenge Rules:

Only military personnel may participate in the “In-person” challenge.

 

  • All individuals in a military category must comply with AR 670-1, “Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia.
  • Participants must be in full uniform during the opening ceremony and at the start of the march. Only uniform tops and headgear may be removed along the route as desired.
  • Boots may not be exchanged for any other footgear along the route. Anyone caught violating this rule will be disqualified. Footwear is limited to military service recognized boots. Consult your service regulations. Hi-Tech style boots may be worn only if authorized by individual service regulations or commander.
  • No LBE/LCE or helmets are required
  • Pioneering poles and hiking sticks are not authorized in any.
  • The route is supported; aid stations will have water and basic first aid kits.
  • Marchers must have a minimum of 35 pounds (dry) including their rucksacks/backpacks, which will be weighed and verified at the finish line.
  • The frame of the ruck/backpack will count towards the 35 pound limit.
  • Alice Style, Blackhawk, Molle or Military issued packs are authorized.
  • Weighted Vests are not allowed or counted as weight unless they are inside your ruck sack.
  • The 35 pounds cannot include rocks, sandbags (unless securely taped shut), logs, water or other items which could be picked up along the route. Marchers with less than 35 pounds will be disqualified from the in-person competition.
  • Please consider using food to use as weight in your backpack: beans, rice, nonperishable items, cans, macaroni, pasta, etc. You will be able to donate this food to the Utah Food Bank when you reach the finish line.
  • Music players/phones are al­lowed only if headphones are used.
  • March route will start at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
  • Military PT uniforms are not authorized
  • Refunds will NOT be authorized once registered nor will they be issued due to inclement weather or cancelation of the march. Specific situations such as military deployment or medical emergency will be taken into consideration, however the individual must contact us directly and provide appropriate documentation.
  • Good sportsmanship is expected at all times!
  • Lost and Found bins will be placed near the finish line. Items that are not claimed within 7 days of the end of event will be donated to local area shelters or thrown away. Please note that staff and volunteers will NOT be sent to search for any discarded items and marchers will NOT be allowed back on the course to find lost items.

 

Virtual Challenge Rules:

Anyone can participate in the Virtual Challenge

  • Marchers must have a minimum of 35 pounds including their rucksacks/backpacks; this is an opportunity to practice the Army value of Integrity.
  • The frame of the ruck/backpack will count towards the 35 pound limit.
  • Use any style of backpack as long as you reach the minimum 35 pounds.
  • Weighted Vests are not allowed or counted as weight unless they are inside your ruck sack.
  • Do your 26.2 miles all at once or spread it out in different rucks; go at your own pace. As long as you complete a cumulative amount of 26.2 miles, you are good to go!
  • Refunds will NOT be authorized once registered nor will they be issued due to inclement weather or cancelation of the march. Specific situations such as military deployment or medical emergency will be taken into consideration, however the individual must contact us directly and provide appropriate documentation.
  • Good sportsmanship is expected at all times!
  • Come to Camp Williams on 10 September 2021. You can pick up your medal between the hours of 1400 and 1800 at Tarbet Field.

Never Forget Participant Liability Waiver Acknowledgment:

By submitting this registration form, I acknowledge that rucking a trail race is a potentially hazardous activity, which could cause injury or death. I will not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained, and by my registration submission, I certify that I am medically able to perform this event, and am in good health, and I am properly trained. I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to any aspect of my participation in this event, including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for any reason whatsoever. I attest that I have read the rules of the race and agree to abide by them. I assume all risks associated with rucking in this event, including but not limited to: falls, physical contact with other participants, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators including the potential the contraction of a communicable disease resulting from contact with other participants, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators. I assume all risks including: the effects of the weather; high heat and/or humidity; freezing cold temperatures; traffic and the conditions of the road including surrounding terrain. I understand that potentially hazardous wildlife exists on Camp Williams. I will avoid any and all contact with any animals during the race. I assume all such risks being known, appreciated, and accepted by me.

Health Risk: I pledge to abide by all race rules. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts and in consideration of your accepting my entry, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Never Forget Ruck, the city of Bluffdale, and all event sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in this event, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of other participants, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators. In addition, I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases and voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 and/or other communicable diseases by participating in this event. I acknowledge that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and/or death. I assume the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 in connection with my participation in this event.

Permissions: I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use my photographs, motion pictures, recordings or any other record of this event for any legitimate purposes. I understand that this event does not provide for refunds in the event of a cancellation, and by submitting this registration form, I consent that I am not entitled to a refund if the event is canceled before or during the event.
