UTNG’s Recruiting Battalion and Wildcat Battalion ROTC program host the Wildcat Challenge for all JROTC high school programs in the state

By Capt. Lauren Macgregor Utah National Guard

The Utah National Guard’s Recruiting Battalion and the Wildcat Battalion, comprised of Weber State University and Utah State University ROTC programs, to host its 2022 Wildcat Challenge at Camp Williams, Utah, on Sept. 30.

“Competition breeds success!  Competition through teamwork will weave itself into everything these young cadets do in life,” said Lt. Col. Angelique Pifer, commander of the Wildcat Battalion. “These cadets will seek to improve themselves and others through their entire lives.  They get a sense of belonging to something that is bigger than themselves.”

The Wildcat Challenge is a recruiting event that will test high school junior ROTC cadets’ cohesion, teamwork, mental agility, and physical fitness. During the challenge, more than 175 cadets from nine high schools in the state of Utah will demonstrate the ability to rapidly problem solve, tie and cross a rope bridge, navigate an obstacle course, and conduct a 2.3-mile ruck march with a weighted ruck sack.

The ROTC programs partner with universities to recruit, educate, develop, and inspire senior ROTC cadets in order to commission officers of character for the Army; and partners with high schools to conduct JROTC in order to develop citizens of character for a lifetime of commitment and service to the nation. This event also highlights the education benefits that are offered through various programs that turn young students into future U.S. Army, Utah National Guard, and national leaders.

The Utah National Guard is a premier, community-based force comprised of relevant and trained citizen-Soldiers and Airmen who are ready to support operations worldwide.
