CAMP WILLIAMS, Utah –
CAMP WILLIAMS, Utah – The Utah National Guard will host the 66th annual Governor’s Day, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, at 10 a.m., at Camp Williams in Bluffdale, Utah.
The honorable Gov. Gary R. Herbert, commander in chief of the Utah National Guard, and the Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Michael J. Turley, will oversee the celebrations on Tarbet Field. Gov. Herbert’s last term in office is nearing, making this the last time he participates in the time-honored tradition of the pass-in-review ceremony.
The event will begin with a flyover of a KC-135R Stratotanker, UH-60 Black Hawk and UH-72 Lakota helicopters. Governor’s Day will also feature a 19-volley cannon salute to the governor, with music provided by the 23rd Army Band.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pass in review will be limited to command elements representing their units and by special invitation only. To help mitigate the spread of the virus at the event, attendees are required to wear a face mask and to adhere to social distancing guidelines. This year, Governor’s Day is closed to the public and the annual reception following the ceremony has been canceled.
The event will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/utahnationalguard/

Communities surrounding Camp Williams may see additional traffic on Redwood Road. No parking is allowed along Redwood Road. Prior to the flyovers, the Stratotanker, Lakota and Black Hawk may be seen circling the south end of the valley. Additionally, with the planned cannon volleys, noise may be heard for the first hour.
The Utah National Guard is composed of two branches of the military, the Utah Army National Guard and the Utah Air National Guard. The adjutant general is the military commander of both branches and is appointed by the governor. While serving in a state status, the governor serves as the commander in chief. The Utah National Guard provides mission-ready military forces to assist both state and federal authorities in times of emergency or war. Since 1894, the Utah National Guard has effectively trained, equipped, and prepared its members to accomplish that mission successfully.
Media Notes: The ceremony will be streamed on Facebook Live at 9:55 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. Media interested in attending Governor’s Day should contact Maj. Jaime Thomas, 801-716-9063 and arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. A media parking pass will be issued upon showing your credentials at Camp William’s main gate. Soldiers will direct media to reserved parking where they will be assigned an escort.
