CAMP WILLIAMS, Utah –
The Utah National Guard will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the completion of its historic renovation of the Camp Williams Officer’s Club on May 25, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
The Officer’s Club is on the Utah Historical Record and is a historical gem of Camp Williams. It holds significant value as a symbol of tradition and service. Originally constructed in 1934, the recent $1.2 million renovation project has preserved the club's unique historical characteristics while incorporating essential updates to ensure its longevity. The stone, sand, and gravel used in construction were quarried from right here on Camp Williams Military Reservation. In total, 327 tons of stone were used to construct the building.
The renovation process, completed with meticulous attention to detail, preserved many original features, including the chandeliers, stonework throughout the building, unit crests in the bar room ceiling, fireplaces, and symmetrical masonry that holds symbolic significance. Replacement materials, such as the roof, copper gutters, and wood flooring, were carefully chosen to replicate the original elements.
Throughout the renovation, the Utah State Historic Preservation Office provided valuable guidance to ensure the preservation of the building's historical integrity. The outstanding partnership between the Utah National Guard's Environment Resource Team, Construction and Facilities Management Team, and the State Historic Preservation Office earned the Utah National Guard third place in the 2022 Army National Guard Environmental Awards.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony serves as a tribute to the rich history of the Camp Williams Officers Club and the dedication of all those involved in its renovation. It represents the commitment of the Utah National Guard to preserve historical landmarks and honor the legacy of service and tradition.
Key participants in the ribbon-cutting ceremony will include Maj. Gen. Michael Turley, the UTNG adjutant general; Brig. Gen. Joseph Green, assistant adjutant general; Command Sgt. Maj. Spencer Nielsen, state command sergeant major; Chief Warrant Officer 5 William Erickson; Col. Shawn Fuellenbach, chief of staff; Col. Vincent Wolff, G-9 director; Col. Shahram Takmili, U.S. Property and Fiscal officer; Col. Shane Day, Utah Training Center commander; delegates from Senator Lee’s and Romney’s office; mayors from surrounding communities, city managers, county commissioners, and other members from the Utah National Guard and the local community. The UTNG also gives special recognition to City Creek Construction, Vincent Design Group, and Command Sgt. Maj. Rick Thalman, lead project manager, that oversaw and performed the renovation of this facility. And finally, we welcome the mayors from our surrounding communities, as well as our Utah County Commissioners and City Managers.
Members of the media are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and witness the unveiling of the renovated Officers Club. Interviews and photo opportunities will be available with distinguished guests and representatives involved in the restoration project.
