Utah National Guard locates lost hikers in Wasatch County

WEST JORDAN, Utah – Members of both 1st and 2nd Battalions, 211th Aviation Regiments, Utah National Guard, located four lost hikers missing on the Strawberry River Drainage area in Wasatch County. The Guard members were assisting the Department of Public Safety with the search and rescue operation due to the night and rainstorm conditions.

Members of 1-211th, flying the Apache AH-64 helicopter equipped with a FLIR camera located the three male children, ages 7, 10, and 14 and one adult, age 50. The Apache pilots directed the DPS members and 2-211th crew flying a HH-60 Black Hawk Medevac helicopter equipped with a hoist to their location.

The Medevac crew was able to hoist all four hikers off the mountain and conduct an initial medical evaluation and all were in good condition. The hikers were then taken to Wasatch County Search and Rescue in Heber City, Utah and were reunited with their family.
