Utah National Guard Aviation Battalion Training Prior to Deployment

By Lt. Col. D.J. Gibb, 801-716-9063 For Immediate Release

In preparation for an upcoming deployment, the Utah National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment will be conducting day-and-night training flights this week, and are expected to complete them on Friday, April 3. Heavy flying periods will occur during the hours from 2:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.

Multiple AH-64 Apache helicopters are scheduled to make daily flights for gunnery and support mission training into the early morning hours each day. This training is required prior to the unit’s deployment coming up in the next few months.

Utah National Guard senior leaders are consistently analyzing options to determine how best to train each of our units to accomplish their mission. All of our training, to include high-priority missions like those of the 1-211th, follow COVID-19 guidelines as is feasible to reduce the spread of the virus, and still be able to train effectively for the mission. Some of these measures include teleworking, social distancing, COVID-19 education, and cancellation of non-mission-essential training events.

Our first priority during this time is protection of the force, but we continue to do what we can to ensure we sustain combat readiness to meet combatant command requirements.

Communities around South Valley Regional Airport in West Jordan and along the flight path to Dugway Proving Ground are expected to be the most affected by these training flights.

Updates regarding the Guard’s involvement with the state of Utah’s response to COVID-19 will be posted to Twitter @UTNationalGuard and our website: ut.ng.mil/COVID19.

If you have a noise inquiry regarding helicopter activity, call 801-816-3490. Please direct all other questions via text or email to Maj. D.J. Gibb, 801-716-9063, ng.ut.utarng.list.pao@mail.mil.
