Soldiers from B Company, and IC Detachment of the 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion (Linguist), 300th Military Intelligence Brigade held a field training exercise in Cache Valley National Forest, August 9-11, 2019. The joint exercise emphasized intelligence operations in an austere environment, while focusing on human intelligence activities and basic Soldier skills. Evaluators for the training event were provided by the Utah National Guard's 640th Regional Training Institute and allowed company leadership to get detailed feedback on mission-essential tasks.
After a tactical convoy to the training site, Soldiers established a tactical operations center and began training around the clock. Their mission was to gather intelligence to answer the Commander’s priority intelligence requirements, locate and destroy opposing forces, and protect friendly assets. During the operations, Soldiers utilized night vision goggles, drones, and paintball equipment. The training included a morale, welfare and recreation event and welcomed the family readiness group along with the battalion command team to the training location to enjoy some good food and makeshift baseball.
“The exercise was a great morale boost for Soldiers as they were able to apply the skills they had been training on all year,” said Capt. Benjamin West, Commander, B Company, 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion. “In addition, night operations utilizing NVGs and paintball guns let the Soldiers practice their Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills."
