Utah National Guard Interim Adjutant General Assumes Command
DRAPER, Utah - The Utah National Guard was officially notified on Wednesday, August 16, that the United States Army Inspector General Agency concluded an investigation into allegations against Maj. Gen. Michael Turley. The governor has placed Maj. Gen. Turley on paid administrative leave based on the information conveyed to the governor by the DAIG. Neither the governor’s office nor the Utah National Guard has received a report of findings.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox has asked Brig. Gen. Daniel D. Boyack to step in as interim TAG and immediately assume command of the Utah National Guard until a permanent selection is made. We expect a permanent appointment within the next month. “Brig. Gen. Boyack is a seasoned and trusted professional,” said Cox “I appreciate the ongoing and service of the Utah National Guard service members during this transition.”
The UTNG is a resilient organization that is structured with subordinate leaders prepared to adapt to rapid change. There will be no impact to the Utah Guard’s readiness or capabilities during a smooth transition of authority. The Utah National Guard remains fully operational, and all operations, events, and activities will be conducted as currently planned.
Inspector General investigations are kept confidential between the Inspector General and those involved directly in the investigation. The Utah National Guard does not have direct access to details of IG investigations. Questions regarding the findings of this investigation will need to be answered by the Department of the Army Inspector General for the status or details of any investigations.
